Empowering learners with employable skills

Every person seeking to earn a living in today’s global economy must write a resume / CV. Every entrepreneur needs a business plan. And every digital storyteller needs a canvas.

Whether creating a resume in Word, developing a business plan in Excel, or communicating ideas in PowerPoint, Microsoft Office proficiency is essential for today’s workforce.

Recently Pearson announced our renewed partnership with Microsoft, creating expanded opportunities for college and career for every learner on the planet.

Millions of learners per year benefit from Microsoft certification. And yet, hundreds of millions more do not have access to the fundamental technology skills required to enter the workforce.

Sadly this opportunity divide is often caused by human conflict – such as is the case in Syria – the worst humanitarian crisis since the Second World War.

Pearson is invested in improving education for children and youth displaced by conflict as one of the world’s most intractable education challenges.

As the world’s leading learning company, we want to help tackle this challenge. But we know we can’t do it alone. Our expertise is in delivering educational products and services at scale. Therefore, we are tackling the issue through collaboration with various partners from the private and non-profit sectors.

For example, we are working with Save the Children, through our ‘Every Child Learning‘ partnership, and investing in R&D for new technology based education solutions to improve education for Syrian refugees.

Together with Microsoft, we are also empowering thousands of students impacted by the Syrian crisis to learn, practice, certify, and showcase their employable skills. The qualifications they will gain will then help them to secure work after they leave formal education.

Layan’s story is a moving example of one Jordanian woman whose certification achievement inspires her – and us – to be “world changers”.

We invite the global community to join us in our vision to empower every learner to reach their full potential.
