Building A Special Connection with Both Parents

November is often a time when people share stories of gratitude and we think that’s great! For the next month the P.S. Blog will feature several Pearson Campus Ambassadors who are grateful for a variety of things: from family and friends to opportunities at their college. What are you grateful for?

5.Derya DemirtasDerya Demirtas is an English major at Amherst College. She hopes to work on a college campus in Student Life after earning her Bachelor’s Degree and help new students integrate into their campus communities. She also plans on attending graduate school for education. Her favorite class right now is Beginning Techniques in Performance which is an acting class. Homemade pecan pie is her favorite holiday food. Here is what she’s grateful for:

I am immensely grateful for my parents.  My dad has taken on a role of being a father without any question. He has never hesitated to support me. He has been my favorite taxi driver, driving me to school, college campuses, and Jonas Brothers concerts. He has been my mobile therapist: listening to Taylor Swift CDs and my life on all these rides.

My mother has sacrificed so much in her life so that I could live the life that she did not get the chance to live. She has made sure that I have a life filled with opportunities and allows me to take full advantage of them. My mother constantly listens. She empathizes with me when I am stressed and gets excited with me over my love of Mean Girls. She is my biggest support and my best friend.

I would not be the person I am today without both of my parents.

Thank you in many different languages written on an open notebook
