The district has inked a six-year, $36,000 deal for the advanced program with Pearson Education, a global education company. The costs will cover soft-cover textbook/ workbooks, teachers’ manuals and training, and support from Pearson for kindergarten through fifth grades. The materials, which will be updated annually, replace a social studies program that had some students using textbooks that were written 12 years ago.

District 127 will be the first school district in Illinois to use the Pearson program, which does not officially roll out until 2013, said Superintendent Rita Wojtylewski.
