As California prepares for new, more rigorous educational standards adopted by nearly all 50 states, with a mission to prepare public school students for 21st-century jobs and college, county educators are getting ready to teach those standards to Solano’s 64,000 students. Benchmarks to help teachers make sure their students have skills and knowledge, while at the same time providing clear goals for learning, they are expected be the most challenging academic standards ever, said Sheldon Reber, a spokesman for the Solano County Office of Education in Fairfield. In a press release, Reber said the SCOE worked with Pearson Education, a New Jersey-based education group, to develop “robust training” that will begin preparing teachers and school administrators for the tougher academic requirements coming to California classrooms at the start of the 2014-15 school year.
