ANITA, Iowa – Online education isn’t just for college anymore — Iowa is now joining the ranks of states offering K-12 education via the Internet. But the district offering it is not in Council Bluffs or Des Moines.
Technology is incorporated into every classroom at the Cumberland-Anita-Massena school district. For example, biology is taught on an interactive white board and students use laptops for their daily work.
“The CAM district has always tried to be a leader in technology,” said Steve Pelzer, superintendent.
Even though every CAM student uses the technology each day, the district of less than 500 students felt the need for improvement in three areas.
“We had identified the three areas with talented and gifted, credit recovery and advanced placement,” Pelzer said.
Connections Academy, a national company, now gives students in those areas an online option
