Central Florida News 13 – Scott McDonnell

Central Florida education is going high-tech, and bulky backpacks will soon be a thing of the past. We spoke with Pearson, a learning sponsor of a forum held in Orlando on Monday. “The districts we are working with in one to one learning districts, those are already gone. The backpacks are now being replaced with a pack that now carries a laptop that has all the resources that they could possible need, plus with the personal things they might carry around. The days of having to carry four or five heavy textbooks are really behind us,” said Scott Drossos, a One on One [sic] Learning specialist for Pearson. Central Florida schools will most likely be among the frontrunners. A state law could require school systems to spend a least 50 percent of their annual materials budget on digital content by 2015.
