Pearson Introduces New Good Habits, Great Readers Writing Program at IRA Convention

Atlanta, GA, May 5, 2008 – At the International Reading Association in Atlanta, the education publisher Pearson today announced Good Habits, Great Readers™ Writing, an in-depth writing program designed to help students understand the reading-writing connection and become proficient writers.

A companion to the popular, research-based Good Habits, Great Readers, the new program provides core lessons that model the five stages of writing which include prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing. It also connects seamlessly to the shared reading instruction of the Good Habits Great Readers program, so together they provide a complete literacy solution and align with the majority of state, county, and district reading and writing standards.

Good Habits, Great Readers Writing provides teaching and classroom materials to support whole-class and small-group reading instruction, and supplements and connects seamlessly to Pearson's DRA2, Words Their Way™ and QuickReads.

"Good Habits, Great Readers Writing includes everything a teacher needs to teach writing, skills and crafts, but leaves room for creativity and passion," says Helen Comba, author of the new program. "At the heart of the writing process is reading. GHGR provides a clear and comprehensive link to that all important reading/writing connection."

Dr. Nancy Frey, Dr. Doug Fisher and Dr. Adria Klein, co-authors of Good Habits, Great Readers, based their program on the research of key scholars such as G.S. Pinnell, I. Beck, and N.K. Duke. Authors Frey, Fisher, and Klein will be hosting presentations at Pearson's booth #1345 throughout the IRA conference. For more information, stop by the booth and please visit www.pearsonschool.com/ghgrw.

Also at IRA, Pearson will have over 20 other presentations featuring renowned authors like Jon Scieszka, Joetta Beaver, Doug Fisher, Nancy Frey, and Freddy Hiebert. Topics include Motivating Boys to Read, Building the Literacy Community, Supporting Fluency and many more.
