eCollege, Sri Lanka Board of Investment to Create ‘eCollege Lanka’ $540,000 investment to create new software jobs for Sri Lankan IT professionals
COLOMBO, Sri Lanka—February 11, 2008 —eCollege, a leading provider of comprehensive eLearning technology and services to education in the United States, has signed an agreement with the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka to extend the company’s current software development projects in Sri Lanka. The agreement creates a total investment of $540,000 and will generate many new employment opportunities for software development engineers in Sri Lanka. eCollege Lanka, an extension of eCollege, will begin operations with a team of 40+ software professionals. The new agreement upgrades an existing Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) agreement initiated in April 2004 between eCollege and a global IT outsourcing company in Colombo, Sri Lanka. “The Sri Lanka team played an important role in the development of our next generation eLearning platform,” said Vance Allen, Chief Technology Officer at eCollege. “This new agreement allows us to continue and deepen our software development relationship. Their ongoing dedication will help eCollege maintain its position as a market leader in innovative education technology.” eCollege Lanka will officially start operations on February 16, 2008. The company will operate a Software Development Centre and Quality Assurance Office on Level 13 of the World Trade Centre’s West Tower.
