Pearson Government Solutions Selected For 2010 U.S. Decennial Census

Lockheed Martin Turns To Industry Leader For Citizen Assistance And Data Management

ARLINGTON, VA., March 29, 2006 -- Pearson Government Solutions announced it has been selected as part of the Lockheed Martin-led team that will develop and deploy the Decennial Response Integration System (DRIS) to carry out the 2010 Census. The Lockheed Martin team was selected by the U.S. Census Bureau last year to implement the most technically advanced Census in the history of the United States.

Pearson will oversee the DRIS data capture management for paper forms. It also will perform all citizen contact management operations for Lockheed Martin.

"We are extremely proud to have been chosen as part of Lockheed Martin's team to bring our state-of-the-art capabilities to a program that is so vital to our nation and our democracy," said Mac Curtis, President and CEO of Pearson Government Solutions. "As the largest provider of citizen contact management solutions to the Federal government, we are committed to ensuring that the 2010 Census is a huge success."

The contract win, which is valued at more than $100 million for Pearson, is the second decennial contract it has worked on with Lockheed Martin for the U.S. Census Bureau. In 2000, Pearson operated the large-scale data management and human resource management services for one of three data centers, receiving and processing approximately 46 million census forms in 120 days.

As an industry leader in designing, building, and operating citizen contact centers and data management solutions, Pearson will bring its unique expertise to one of the most important programs of the Federal government. Every 10 years in the United States, the national census is used to apportion seats in the House of Representatives, determine Federal funding for a host of government programs, and understand the changing dynamics of the population that impact policy choices for the next decade.

During the operational phase of the 2010 Census, Pearson Government Solutions' role on the Lockheed Martin team will be to provide all call center personnel and associated facilities. In addition, it will provide overall management of data center operations that provide the receipt and processing of returned Census forms. Pearson will have complete responsibility for operating one of the paper processing data centers. This effort will require recruiting and training several thousand personnel to carry out the 2010 Census. The DRIS contract is expected to start in October 2005 and continue through January 2011.

Pearson also will support Lockheed Martin and the U.S. Census Bureau in planning all operational aspects of the 2010 Census during the operational phase of the Census. Other companies on the Lockheed Martin team include Cardinal Technologies Inc., Bethesda, MD; Computer Sciences Corporation, El Segundo, CA; Evolver Inc., Reston, VA; IBM, Bethesda, MD; Métier Ltd., Washington, DC; Nortel PEC Solutions, Fairfax, VA.
