William F. Tate, Pearson Scott Foresman Author, Named Edward Mallinckrodt Distinguished Professor In Arts & Sciences At Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri

Upper Saddle River, NJ - May 26, 2005 -- William F. Tate, an author for Pearson Scott Foresman's mathematics and science programs, has been named the Edward Mallinckrodt Distinguished University Professor in Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.

Professor Tate is a program author for three Pearson Scott Foresman K-6 math programs, including Scott Foresman-Addison Wesley Mathematics, Scott Foresman California Mathematics, and Silver Burdett Ginn Mathematics. He is also an author for the K-6 Scott Foresman Science program, and he has been a featured speaker at Pearson Scott Foresman Mathematics Leadership Conferences.

In addition, Professor Tate serves as the principal investigator and project director for the St. Louis Center for Inquiry in Science Teaching and Learning, one of ten such centers in the U.S. funded by the National Science Foundation. He is program chair for the spring 2006 American Educational Research Association annual meeting, and co-editor of the AERA Journal.

His professional experience includes working in the Dallas Public School System as Scholar-in-Residence and Assistant Superintendent of Mathematics and Science. He joined the faculty of Arts & Sciences at Washington University in 2002 as Professor and Chair of the Department of Education, with a joint appointment in American Culture Studies Program and an affiliation with the Applied Statistics and Computation Program serving on the executive committee of both programs. Professor Tate also is a participating faculty member in the Audiology and Communication Sciences program at the Washington University Medical School.

The Edward Mallinckrodt Distinguished University Professorships honor Edward Mallinckrodt and his son, Edward Mallinckrodt Jr., both successful chemists, able businessmen, and generous philanthropists supporting higher education.
