Scanner Solutions Now Available for Pearson PASeries Paper Formative Assessment Testing Made Easier at Classroom and District Levels IOWA CITY, Iowa. April 20, 2005 -- Pearson Education today announced scanner solutions for PASeries™ (Progress Assessment Series™), allowing schools and districts to more easily score the scientifically valid formative assessments when administered on paper. The assessments can be accurately and efficiently scored using any Pearson OpScan® scanner, including the OpScan iNSIGHT™ 4 scanner and the OpScan 4U scanner, available from Pearson NCS. "We want all schools and districts to be able to use PASeries assessments to measure and monitor student achievement toward progress goals, regardless of whether they are testing students online or on paper," said Douglas Kubach, president and CEO of Pearson Educational Measurement, the developers of PASeries. Developed initially for grades 3 through 8, PASeries assessments are scientifically valid, reliable and research-based benchmark tests. PASeries tests are designed for completion in one class period and for delivery either on paper or online with quick electronic reporting of results at the student, class, district and state levels. The first two products, PASeries Reading and PASeries Mathematics, use the scientific Lexile® scale for reading measurement and its new companion Quantile® scale for mathematics to evaluate student progress. Each PASeries Reading assessment includes a screening test for placement and three progress monitoring tests for each grade. PASeries Mathematics assessments include a screening test for placement, six progress monitoring tests for each grade and diagnostic tests by strand with item analysis reports. Scanners from Pearson NCS can also support other classroom tests, surveys and administrative applications, allowing schools and districts to maximize their investments. With throughput of 1,500-8,000 forms per hour, these scanners offer an accurate, flexible and reliable way to score PASeries tests and other assessments.
