C.K. Prahalad’s The Fortune At The Bottom Of The Pyramid Voted Number One Business Book Of 2004 By AMAZON.COM Editors

Upper Saddle River, NJ – November 11, 2004 – The Fortune At The Bottom Of The Pyramid: Eradicating Poverty Through Profits, by C.K. Prahalad and published by Wharton School Publishing, is the top business book of 2004, according to the editors at Amazon.com. The editors stated that, “Our favorite book of the year in Business challenges readers to reexamine their thoughts about Bottom of the Pyramid (BOP) markets."

Published in July, The Fortune At The Bottom Of The Pyramid advocates that the world’s most exciting, fastest-growing market is where you would least expect it: at the bottom of the pyramid. Collectively, the world’s billions of poor people have immense entrepreneurial capabilities and buying power. Companies have a genuine opportunity to commit their energy and resources to help the disadvantaged of the world, and Prahalad shows how it is being done – profitably.

The book has been praised by many business and political leaders, including Bill Gates, who said that, “Drawing on a wealth of case studies, The Fortune At The Bottom Of The Pyramid [is a] compelling new book [that] offers an intriguing blueprint for how to fight poverty with profitability." Madeleine Albright, former U.S. Secretary of State, said that “The Bottom of the Pyramid belongs at the top of the reading list for business people, academics, and experts pursuing the elusive goal of sustainable growth in the developing world."

C.K. Prahalad is Harvey C. Fruehauf Professor of Business Administration and Professor of Corporate Strategy and International Business at the University of Michigan Business School. The recipient of the Global Indian Award from the Economic Times Awards for Corporate Excellence, Prahalad is a globally recognized business consultant. His groundbreaking article, “The End of Corporate Imperialism," won the 1998 McKinsey Prize as the year’s best Harvard Business Review article. With Gary Hamel, he co-authored the global business bestseller, Competing for the Future.
