Hurley Named SVP, Strategic Solutions And Partnerships At Pearson Education’s School Companies
UPPER SADDLE RIVER, N.J., Aug. 19, 2004 – – Education industry veteran Kathleen M. Hurley has been named Senior Vice President, Strategic Solutions and Partnerships at Pearson Education’s School Companies, a new position. “We are very pleased to have someone with Kathy’s credentials in this important role in the School Companies,” said Steven Dowling, executive vice president, Pearson Education School Companies. “Kathy clearly understands the changing needs of today’s schools and will play an important role in further expanding Pearson’s integrated education solutions.” Most recently Hurley was Vice President, Education, at PLATO Learning, Inc. Prior to PLATO Learning’s acquisition of NetSchools Corporation, Hurley served as the Senior Vice President for NetSchools, where her responsibilities included overseeing the sales, marketing and business development departments of the company. Hurley has also served as Senior Vice President of Education Marketing for The Learning Company, and Senior Vice President of Skillsbank Corporation. Hurley has also held management positions with IBM, Mindscape, Grolier Electronic Publishing, and Developmental Learning Materials. She currently serves on several key industry and education advisory boards, including, the National School Boards Foundation (NSBF), the Software and Information Industry Association (SIIA), and the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). She is also past president of the Association of Educational Publishers and is a former board member. In addition, Hurley has received various awards for her service in the industry. In 2003, Hurley was inducted into the Association of Educational Publishers Hall of Fame for her achievements and service to the education technology industry. In 2001, she was the Consortium for School Networking’s first ever Outstanding Private Sector Achievement Award recipient. Hurley began her career in education working with learning disabled students, after receiving her Masters degree at Jersey City State College. She also continues to support her undergraduate institution, the University of Dayton, by serving on the Advisory Board for the School of Education.
