LessonLab Launches Breakthrough Mathematics In-Depth, Lesson Analysis Approach To Professional Development Tied Directly To Instruction In Pearson Education K-12 Math Texts Santa Monica, CA – April 22, 2004 – LessonLab, a pioneer in education research and professional development for K-12 educators, today announced the launch of BreakThrough Mathematics, three new professional development courses directly linked to Scott Foresman-Addison Wesley Mathematics, Prentice Hall Mathematics, and Connected Mathematics Project (CMP). BreakThrough Mathematics exemplifies LessonLab’s approach to professional development. It focuses on improving classroom performance by making the teaching process and the way students learn more explicit and visible. This, in turn, leads to teachers rethinking the way they approach lessons in order to adapt and respond to the needs of each learner. BreakThrough Mathematics can be implemented in schools or districts through three different delivery options, each facilitated by a LessonLab Faculty member and utilizing the LessonLab approach to professional development: face-to-face delivery conducted on-site; online delivery, and blended delivery, which includes a mixture of face-to-face and online sessions. LessonLab also offers District Leader training as an option for districts that wish to facilitate BreakThrough Mathematics courses on their own. BreakThrough Mathematics for Scott Foresman-Addison Wesley encompasses grades preK-5, and is composed of eight courses, each of which can be completed in about twelve hours. BreakThrough Mathematics for Prentice Hall focuses on critical math concepts across all strands from grade 6 through Algebra I. It includes five courses, each spanning about twelve hours. BreakThrough Mathematics for Prentice Hall’s Connected Mathematics explores ways for educators to teach most effectively using the Launch, Explore, Summarize instructional model central to the Connected Mathematics process. The sixth grade level course, Shapes and Design, will be introduced in May. "LessonLab’s unique approach to professional development is designed to help teachers improve their classroom decision-making and judgment," said Beth Wray, President, LessonLab, "As a result, teachers can more effectively meet students’ learning needs and foster improved student achievement."
