Pearson Learning Group Announces 6th Annual Developmental Reading Assesment Summer Institute Event To Be Held June 22-24, 2004 In Mt. Laurel, New Jersey Upper Saddle River, NJ – April 6, 2004 – Pearson Learning Group, part of Pearson Education (NYSE: PSO), the global leader in educational publishing, announced today it will hold its Sixth Annual Developmental Reading Assessment Summer Institute from June 20-22 at the Hartford Elementary School in Mt. Laurel, NJ. The Institute provides educators with the opportunity to learn more about Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA®), which helps teachers in grades K-8 identify students’ strengths and weaknesses in reading, and help improve reading performance. Featured presenters at this year’s event include DRA® developer Joetta Beaver, educator and nationally acclaimed author. Beaver is the author of Developmental Reading Assessment® K-3 and co-author of Developmental Reading Assessment® 4-8 and Developing Writer’s Assessment with Dr. Mark Carter, who will also make a presentation. Each of the three days will begin with a general session using DRA® to guide attendees through actual assessments of students at various stages. Participants then choose break-out sessions that focus on instruction appropriate for the students analyzed in the General Sessions, as well as help to strengthen classroom practices. "The DRA® Summer Institute is an event that allows us to work with educators across the nation, learning what is going on in their schools and how we can help them," said Dan Caton, President, Pearson Learning Group. “DRA is becoming an increasingly important and effective tool across the U.S. to assess and improve reading abilities. For example, there are currently 150 districts in New Jersey, including the high-achieving Mt. Laurel, using DRA to ensure that their students make adequate yearly progress.” DRA® is published by Celebration Press, an imprint of the Pearson Learning Group, which is part of the Supplemental and Professional Group of Pearson Education.
