Alan Morgan Joins Pearson Education in Government Relations Role Upper Saddle River, NJ – March 10, 2004 – Dr. Alan Morgan, who for the past several years has served as Pearson Education’s primary state government relations adviser, has joined Pearson Education full-time as Vice President, Government Relations. Dr. Morgan has a long and varied career in education, first as a teacher, then as a chief state school officer and most recently as a consultant to a variety of education policy organizations and corporations. For the past several months, he served New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson as the state’s first Secretary of Education. Dr. Morgan’s career as an educator began in 1969 as an elementary teacher in New Mexico and increased in responsibility until he was tapped to be State Superintendent of Public Instruction in 1985. He served 12 years as the chief state school officer in New Mexico, including four terms as president or vice-president of the Council of Chief State School Officers. Dr. Morgan retired from public service in 1997. He started High Desert Government Relations to provide consulting and government relations expertise in state educational policy support to a variety of clients, principally Pearson Education. In September, New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson asked Morgan to return to public service to be the interim Secretary of Education, a new position, to help create and initially oversee the new Public Education Department. By year’s end the agency was ready for a permanent cabinet secretary and Morgan returned to the private sector. "We are very fortunate to have someone of Alan’s caliber join Pearson Education on a full-time basis," said Jeff Taylor, president of Pearson, Inc., who oversees the company’s government relations efforts. "He’s a well-respected member of the education community who will help us maintain our leadership position in education." Morgan has worked with Pearson Education as a consultant the past six years. His new duties will be to provide government relations support throughout Pearson Education and help manage Pearson relationships with key national education organizations and entities involved in education policy.
