Pearson Prentice Hall and Texas Instruments to Publish Educational Products for High School Math Market

TI Joins With Publisher To Develop Content For Textbook Series

Upper Saddle River, NJ - February 2, 2004 - Pearson Prentice Hall, the nation’s leading secondary educational publisher, and Texas Instruments (TI), the leader in handheld educational technology, have formed an alliance to create two new integrated products to increase student achievement in high school mathematics. Both incorporate content, developed exclusively for Pearson Prentice Hall math textbooks, with TI handheld devices.

Pearson Prentice Hall and TI have jointly developed TI-83/84 PLUS Activities, a new activity booklet and CD-ROM exclusively for use with Algebra 1, Algebra 2 and Geometry. The product contains instructional activities for the TI-83 Plus and TI- 84 Plus handheld devices, allowing teachers to enhance teaching of math concepts. Complete teaching notes, including objectives, classroom management notes and answers, support the activities. The CD-ROM also contains data files for selected exercises in the texts and electronic study cards to help students review each chapter. The TI-83/84 PLUS Activities package will be available on February 1, 2004 from Pearson Prentice Hall.

The second product that the two companies will co-produce utilizes the TI-Navigator classroom network system, which allows teachers to wirelessly network TI-83 PLUS and TI-84 PLUS handheld devices. Pearson Prentice Hall will provide its Instant Check System assessment exercises to users of the TI-Navigator system. By using these exercises, teachers will receive immediate feedback on student progress during the course of a Pearson Prentice Hall lesson. This feedback will help teachers to adjust their instruction and ensure that all students make daily progress. The CD-ROM and instruction booklet will be available in late spring 2004.

"This unique alliance of TI’s widely used technology and Pearson Prentice Hall’s trusted math content will help teachers improve student performance in the classroom," said Martha Smith, President, Pearson Education School Group. "We also hope to make math education a more rewarding and dynamic experience."
