Pearson Educational Measurement Wins Virginia Educational Information Management System Contract

Statewide Data Warehousing and Data Management System will manage all student assessment data and more

Iowa City, IA - January 30, 2004 - Pearson Educational Measurement today announced that it has been awarded a contract for the Educational Information Management System (EIMS) by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE).

Under this contract, Pearson will provide a state-level education information management system that will enable the VDOE to meet increasing state and federal reporting requirements and enable stakeholders at all levels of education to make informed decisions based on accurate and timely information.

Virginia is one of the first states beginning implementation of a statewide educational data management and data warehousing system. Pearson Educational Measurement is a leading company in the education business and has worked aggressively to develop a secure on-line data management system. “We are thrilled to continue our longstanding partnership with the Virginia Department of Education. Our system is specifically designed to support customers such as the 1.2 million students and over 100,000 educators in schools in the Commonwealth of Virginia but is flexible enough to handle almost any size requirement,” said Doug Kubach, President of Pearson Educational Measurement.

The Educational Information Management System features:

  • Standard and ad-hoc reporting that meets the information and reporting requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB);
  • Access by state and school personnel and the public to appropriate education data, reports and decision support tools through a flexible, easy-to-use web interface;
  • Compliance with state and federal laws and statutes that protect the confidentiality of student and staff information;
  • Secure web-based data transfer and interface, and;
  • Training for educators on using information to make better decisions.

The program will begin with a pilot phase to be conducted during the first half of 2004, with the implementation of the major aspects of the program to come during the following year.
