Microsoft and Pearson Technology Group (PTG) to Produce Benchmark Book Series for the Windows Community Series to Model Successful Microsoft .NET Development Series from Addison-Wesley, a Pearson Technology Group Imprint Microsoft TechEd 2003, Dallas TX - June 2, 2003 - Pearson Technology Group (PTG), representing the publishing industry's leading imprints for technical and professional information, today announced that it has signed an agreement with Microsoft Corporation to publish a series of books for the Microsoft Windows community. Twenty books are expected to publish before year-end, from various PTG imprints, including Addison-Wesley, Que Publishing and Sams Publishing. PTG and all of its imprints are part of Pearson Education (NYSE: PSO), the world's largest educational publisher. Leading technical experts from the IT industry, including developers from Windows and Server Divisions at Microsoft, will write and technically review books for the various servers, including Windows Server 2003, BizTalk Server 2003, SQL Server 2000, the forthcoming Exchange Server 2003, and others. To be included in the series, contents of the books must be tested against and comply with commercially available code. The idea for the series follows the success of Addison-Wesley's Microsoft .NET Development Series, a collection of books on various .NET technologies designed to address developers' needs for reliable, first-hand information and real-world examples from the experts who developed them. Recognizing a similar need in the Windows community, PTG and Microsoft will publish a benchmark series tailored to administrators and IT workers. Books in the series will maintain a co-branded look and feel. Working closely with the Windows and Server Divisions at Microsoft, PTG will have access to early product information, a pool of high-level technical reviewers and contact with key Microsoft Windows and Server product development team members- many of whom will ultimately author some of the cornerstone books in the series. "Imprints that are part of Pearson Technology Group uphold a standard in technology publishing that demands content beyond explaining feature sets and rushing a book to market first," said John Wait, Executive Vice President and Publisher, Addison-Wesley, Prentice Hall Professional Technical Reference and Cisco Press. "To deliver an invaluable resource to our customers, part of our publishing strategy is to identify the best people to write about a given topic and enter strategic relationships that are aligned with our publishing standards." "Microsoft's support and open-door policy to its technical talent throughout the creation of the was in sync with that standard, and we are thrilled to extend the relationship to a series for the Microsoft Windows community. We have no doubt that this series, too, will achieve that level of success," added Wait. Prior to the Windows Server 2003 launch, more than one million customers downloaded Windows Server 2003 preview code. For Microsoft, the size and success of Pearson's international sales force will increase visibility of Windows and Server products in international markets and may increase product sales in those markets. Addison-Wesley expects to sign nine books and publish four by the end of the year. Current, Windows bestseller Inside Windows Server 2003, by Bill Boswell (ISBN 0-7357-1158-5), will become part of the series. Mr. Boswell's forthcoming book, Inside Exchange Server 2003, will also be published as part of the series.
