Pearson Education Technologies Enhances NovaNET® Courseware with 66 New Multimedia Lessons in Math and Language Arts

Winter 2003 Release Also Features Private Notes Files to Facilitate Communication Between Teachers and Students

Mesa, AZ - January 16, 2003 - Pearson Education Technologies (formerly NCS Learn) today announced the release of 66 new multimedia lessons in mathematics and language arts for its NovaNET® comprehensive courseware system. The winner of eSchool News' Curriculum Software Choice for the Comprehensive Courseware Category, Grades 9-12, NovaNET is an online, standards-based curriculum and assessment system designed specifically for middle and high school learners.

The NovaNET winter 2003 release provides schools with new lessons covering various content areas in mathematics and language arts. The mathematics lessons cover fractions, addition, and subtraction. The language arts lessons include writing, capitalization, punctuation, spelling, word usage, vocabulary, and research strategies. The release is part of Pearson Education Technologies’ effort to continuously update its products with the most current content and multimedia technology.

In addition to the new lessons, the winter 2003 release will offer teachers a valuable feature designed to facilitate communication with students. Teachers can now request to have their own private notes files created on the NovaNET system for specific student and classroom use. The private notes files enable teachers to create a secure chat room where they can communicate with students about the day’s lessons, class assignments, and group projects. They can also be used for online discussion forums set to allow students to participate in conversations that are either open-ended or instructor-moderated.

The NovaNET system offers cross-platform capability with Microsoft® Windows® or Macintosh® operating systems. NovaNET is continuously upgraded and enhanced throughout the year, providing customers with the newest courseware and latest technology to meet the needs of today’s schools.

The NovaNET winter 2003 release will ship to all current NovaNET subscribers, at no additional charge, beginning in January. Customers may deploy the new lessons, as well as the entire NovaNET library of multimedia lessons, from the CD or from the Pearson Education Technologies Customer Link (TM) support Web site.
