Pearson Education Announces Global Branding Initiative

At Four-Year Mark, Education Company Introduces Pearson Name Across All Its Products and Services

Upper Saddle River, NJ - January 6, 2003 - Pearson Education (a Pearson company, NYSE: PSO, LSE: PSON), the world's leading education company, announced a major effort to co-ordinate branding across all its products in educational publishing, testing and assessment and educational software and services.

"Over the last four years, we've built our identity around the names that were already well-known and respected at the time Pearson Education was formed. Now, we think the time is right to give greater meaning to the name "Pearson," says Peter Jovanovich, Pearson Education CEO. "It will help us to create greater awareness among our customers, authors and partners of the value of our combined enterprise and give them a better understanding of the full range of what we offer."

Pearson Education imprints include Scott Foresman, Prentice Hall, Longman, Addison Wesley, Allyn & Bacon, and over 50 other educational names. With the acquisition of NCS in 2000, the company gained additional depth to its education businesses, adding testing and assessment, application software and a growing government contracting business to its leadership in publishing.

Pearson Education's full line of education products span pre-kindergarten through college, and on into the professional and technical markets. They include scientifically based core curriculum textbooks and ancillaries across all the disciplines; traditional and online testing, assessment, and reporting tools; and integrated communication and administration software solutions. The company also provides online learning resources, professional development programs, and custom publishing solutions.

With the exception of established professional and technical imprints like Addison-Wesley Professional, Adobe Press, Peachpit Press, Cisco Press and several others, the Pearson name will be appended to all business names. On the textbook side, titles now include Pearson Scott Foresman, Pearson Prentice Hall, etc. The NCS Pearson businesses are renamed Pearson Education Technologies (formerly NCS Learn), Pearson Assessments & Testing, Pearson NCS Data Management, and Pearson Government Solutions. In addition, all company logos will now display the Pearson name as an integral part of their design.
