SchoolSuccess and High/Scope Announce Launch of Highscope.net – A Web-Based Observation Assessment Tool for the Early Childhood Market

Ypsilanti, Michigan - September 18, 2002 - The High/Scope Educational Research Foundation and Pearson Education's SchoolSuccess announce the launch of Highscope.net, (www.highscope.net) an interactive web-based solution that offers observational assessment tools for early childhood programs. Highscope.net features an online version of the High/Scope Child Observation Record (COR), an observational assessment tool that charts children's progress in six different categories of development over time. The High/Scope COR is widely used in public and private childcare centers and Head Start programs throughout the country.

Based on over 30 years of scientific research, the COR allows teachers to gather anecdotal information about each child in six major learning areas throughout the school year including Initiative, Social Relations, Creative Representation, Music and Movement, Language and Literacy, and Logic and Mathematics. With this information, teachers are able to construct a profile on each child that is directed to the preparation and development of skills from each area.

HighScope.net is a valuable resource for teachers and child care providers, administrators, and families. It saves the user time by streamlining the process of entering and scoring anecdotal information, or notes taken by the teacher, while observing each child's behavior. It then aggregates this data and generates individual and group reports with individualized planning and curriculum tools. Because assessments are completed online, data is accessible from anywhere and producing reports is a very easy task. Various reports on a child, a whole class, a site, a program, or school district are automatically generated with the click of a mouse. Highscope.net also allows parents to monitor their child's progress by viewing reports for them.

Additionally, HighScope.net automatically maps assessment data to the mandated Head Start Outcomes, a framework of learning and development areas intended to guide the on-going assessment of the progress and accomplishments of each child for school success. Highscope.net allows the user to easily and quickly manipulate and analyze this aggregated data and focus on specific learning and development areas and demographics. Administrators are able to produce reports at the site and program levels, which eases their administrative workload while facilitating quality improvement.
