New Book/DVD Hybrid Enables Mac Users to Experience the Digital Hub Pearson's Peachpit Press Author To Be Featured Expert at New Apple Store in NYC Berkeley, CA - July 15, 2002 - Apple Computer's "digital hub" programs are transforming the way Mac users listen to music, work with photographs, and make movies. The Macintosh Digital Hub (ISBN: 0-321-11560-0; $29.99) by Jim Heid is a new book/DVD hybrid produced by Peachpit Press and Avondale Media that will transform the way Mac users master these tools. The Macintosh Digital Hub is the first of its kind: a full-color book combined with a companion DVD-Video disc containing 140 minutes of interactive tutorials and tips. "By itself, the printed page doesn't do justice to the digital hub," said Jim Heid, author and host of the book/DVD and Editorial Director of Avondale Media. "The DVD enables readers to see and hear the digital hub programs in action." The book and DVD were developed in parallel, and each is designed to complement the other. Throughout the book, readers will find references to specific chapters on the DVD that relate to the topic being discussed. Similarly, the DVD frequently refers viewers to the book for technical background and more in-depth information. The Macintosh Digital Hub book is a breakthrough in itself. This full-color, 160-page book is organized into a series of two-page spreads, each a self-contained reference or tutorial on a given topic. Each spread is beautifully designed, with illustrations, sidebars, glossaries, and step-by-step instructions that demystify the digital hub and get readers' creative juices flowing. The book contains four primary sections: The DVD is organized similarly, with 87 subchapters and "jump to topic" menus that make any chapter accessible with just a few clicks. Companion Web Site Because the digital hub is always evolving, The Macintosh Digital Hub also features a companion Web site. Available at www.macintoshdigitalhub.com, the site features links and resources for each of the four areas covered in the book/DVD. A members-only area of the site contains updates, product reviews, and tips. Effective September 1, this area will be password-protected and available free to purchasers of The Macintosh Digital Hub. Samples from the book and DVD can be seen on the Web site, which launches on July 19. The Macintosh Digital Hub is the result of a collaboration between Peachpit Press; Avondale Media, producers of DVD-Video instructional courses; and BayCreative, an award-winning design and editorial development firm based in San Francisco. "We're thrilled with the results of our collaboration," said Steve Broback, President of Avondale Media. "We look forward to working together with Peachpit Press to combine our innovative approach to video instruction with Peachpit's top-quality books." The Macintosh Digital Hub at Macworld New York Author/host Jim Heid will be discussing the book/DVD and the digital hub at next week's Macworld Expo in New York.
The Macintosh Digital Hub at Stanford University in August Author/host Jim Heid will be teaching a five-day course, "Communicating with Digital Media", at Stanford University's Digital Media Academy this August 12-16.
