NCS Pearson Wins Maryland Online Testing Contract

Iowa City, Iowa - May 16, 2002 - NCS Pearson, Inc., the nation's largest commercial processor of K-12 student assessment tests and a leading education company, today announced that the Maryland State Department of Education has awarded to NCS Pearson the contract for implementation of computer adaptive versions of the Maryland Functional Mathematics Test and the Maryland Functional Reading Test. The contract includes delivering the Maryland Functional Tests on NCS Pearson's proprietary electronic test delivery system, eMeasurement™ Services.

The Maryland Functional Testing Program has been an integral part of the Maryland State Department of Education's assessment system since the 1980s. Under the contract, NCS Pearson will deliver the Maryland Functional Tests via the Internet in computer adaptive format. Passage of the Maryland Functional Tests in Mathematics and Reading are currently two of the requirements for a student to receive a Maryland high school diploma.
