New Titles Added to Cisco® Secure Library

Network Security Books Helps Networkers Reduce Risk

Indianapolis, IN - January 15, 2002 - Cisco Systems strives to help customers build secure internetworks through network design featuring its Cisco Secure product family. To help networkers better understand this product family, Cisco Press developed a line of network security titles that focus on various components of Cisco Secure. Cisco Secure Internet Security Solutions was the first book available that dealt with Internet security from a Cisco perspective. New additions to the Cisco Press line of security titles include Cisco Secure Intrusion Detection System, Cisco Secure PIX® Firewalls, and Cisco Secure Virtual Private Networks.

The first book in the series, Cisco Secure Internet Security Solutions, is aimed at network engineers and designers who are responsible for the corporate Internet connection or the installation of Cisco Secure products. Explaining items such as Cisco Secure PIX Firewall and PIX commands in detail, this title primarily focuses on network and Internetwork security. Along with Cisco Secure Internet Security Solutions, the three new security titles bring a specialized area of expertise to the collection; each is focused on a niche area that contributes to the well-rounded security overview of the series as a whole.

Cisco Secure Intrusion Detection System, written by Earl Carter, is the second title in the series. Based on the official instructor-led course of the same name, this title explores why network security is important, how it improves security on a network, and how to install and configure Cisco Secure Intrusion Detection Systems (CSIDS). Cisco Secure Intrusion Detection System is the only book on the market today that focuses solely on the implementation of CSIDS.

It is important for Cisco networkers tasked with security issues to know how to configure basic and advanced features of the Cisco PIX Firewall hardware, as well as how to configure PIX Firewalls for virtual private network (VPN) connectivity using IPSec. In Cisco Secure PIX Firewalls, published in December 2001, David Chapman and Andy Fox explore real-life examples of firewall security implementation. Focusing on such topics as network security fundamentals, PIX hardware and software features, basic configuration of PIX Firewalls, and the use of Cisco IOS® routers as firewalls, this Cisco Press book is based on the official instructor-led training courses Cisco Secure PIX Firewall Fundamentals (CSPFF) and Cisco Secure PIX Firewall Advanced (CSPFA).

As with the other new additions, Cisco Secure Virtual Private Networks is also a recommended reference for the official training course of the same name. In this title, Andrew Mason shows how to reduce network cost, enable network scalability, and increase remote access efficiency by deploying Cisco-based VPNs. This official coursebook gives readers the knowledge to plan, administer, and maintain a VPN.

All three new security titles are sold at under $50.00 each, which make for an affordable addition to any Cisco Secure library.
