Child Health Nursing: Partnering with Children and Families, 2nd edition, provides a comprehensive, reader-friendly reference for pediatric nurses. Written by leading nurse authors Jane W. Ball, Ruth C. Bindler and Kay J. Cowen, Child Health Nursing simplifies the content of pediatric nursing into a user-friendly format that makes it easy for students to learn and professors to teach. The book equips students with the skills needed to become leaders and patient advocates in pediatric nursing by focusing on health promotion and acute care nursing responsibilities in community and hospital care settings for children from birth through adolescence. The family is recognized as the central influence in each child’s life and respect for families of all cultures is promoted.

Gerontological Nursing 2nd edition, by Patricia A. Tabloski, is a research-based guide to caring for older patients. The book presents information related to normal and pathological changes of aging, with an emphasis on the critical information that nurses need for assessment, diagnosis, planning and evaluating care outcomes for their older clients. Throughout the book are recommendations from the Hartford Institute of Geriatric Nursing about the best practice for an older patient with the particular health problem under discussion. Bolstered by current research in nursing, medicine, sociology and psychology, Gerontological Nursing combines information on medical-surgical care for older patients with issues facing the older population as a whole.

“We are honored that the American Journal of Nursing has recognized these leading nursing authors for their contributions to the field,” said Leah Jewell, President of Pearson’s Health Science and Careers division. “These books represent the culmination of research in their respective specialties and provide today’s students who will be tomorrow’s nurses with credible best practices that they will use to provide the highest level of care to their patients.”

Pearson offers a variety of resources that support the education of nursing students, including The Neighborhood, a Web-based learning platform that provides powerful insight into real-world medical situations that nurses face every day. The Neighborhood consists of virtual families and institutions and includes video clips, photos, biographical information and medical records that reflect the health care issues and illnesses represented in homes, community agencies, outpatient centers, clinics, and hospital settings.
