New York, NY, April 16, 2012 — Pearson and the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (EI) today announced an exclusive agreement for Pearson to distribute content and the professional credential for several EI programs, including the Skills Tasks and Results Training (START) and the Lodging Management Program (LMP) in the U.S. market.
The Educational Institute is an independent, nonprofit subsidiary of the American Hotel & Lodging Association. It creates employee training materials for the hospitality industry, publishes and distributes textbooks used for hospitality programs in high schools and universities, and is widely recognized as the preeminent leader in hospitality certification.
The START program provides high school students and people re-entering the workforce with training for hospitality positions in the rooms and food and beverage divisions of a lodging operation, including front desk, reservations, housekeeping, bell services, restaurant service, and banquet setup.
The Lodging Management Program provides high school juniors and seniors with the classroom and real-life experiences needed to prepare for a career in the lodging industry.
In addition, the agreement includes distribution of 29 higher education titles covering the wide range of topics necessary to succeed in the hotel and lodging industry. Students can earn a professional credential upon successful completion of the EI-graded final exam.
“The Educational Institute is widely known and respected for the quality and depth of its content, and we hope this agreement is the first step in a long and fruitful partnership,” said Vernon R. Anthony, Editorial Director of Careers at Pearson Higher Education.
“Our partnership agreement comes at an opportune time,” said Robert L. Steele III, CHA, President and Chief Operating Officer at the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute. “We couldn’t be happier to have Pearson, the world’s leading learning company, as our distribution partner. Their expertise and reach are unsurpassed, and we look forward to working with them.”
