Pearson Launches Interactive Online Study Guides for Educator Certification Testing Programs
Preparation Guides Join Complete Suite of Tools and Resources for Navigating the Testing Experience
Hadley, MA, July 19, 2011 — Pearson today launched NES® Prep, a series of interactive, online study guides designed to support teacher candidates as they prepare for certification tests, including the NES® (National Evaluation Series™) educator certification testing program. These online test preparation tools allow candidates to preview the teacher certification test, understand their strengths and areas for improvement, explore test subject areas and discover other resources to help them prepare.
Jointly developed by the company’s Evaluation Systems and Teacher Education and Student Success groups, the NES Prep study guides begin with a diagnostic test with correct answer explanations to help candidates target the areas where additional study may be needed. Guide chapters are organized around NES content objectives, and incorporate review exercises to assess progress. NES Prep expanded study guides for 13 fields, including basic skills, pedagogy, and elementary education, feature enhanced instructional content, multimedia components such as audio or video clips, and additional review exercises — useful elements for teacher candidates seeking to review their content knowledge in key test field areas.
"Preparing for exams is an important part of the educator certification testing process and we are committed to providing rich, interactive tools such as NES Prep to help candidates ensure that they have a successful testing experience," said William Gorth, Ph.D., president of the Evaluation Systems group of Pearson.
The NES is designed to help states ensure that the educators they certify are prepared to teach effectively in 21st century classrooms. NES tests provide states with comprehensive exams aligned to professional accepted nation learning standards, covering areas such as essential academic skills, professional knowledge, reading instruction and commonly taught elementary, middle and secondary grade-level subjects.
Other resources developed by Pearson to help candidates prepare for certification tests include NES Profile and NES Practice. NES Profile is a series of free, online study guides that are accessible from school, home or wherever the candidate has Internet access. Each NES Profile includes the essential information a candidate needs about a NES test, such as the format and content covered, as well as sample test questions. NES Practice is a series of full-length online interactive practice tests designed to stimulate the experience of taking a NES test. NES Practice tests are available for 33 NES test fields and include authentic questions developed for the testing program.
Available for individual and institutional purchase, the NES Prep study guides start at $22.50 for a six-month subscription. Detailed guide information, pricing and demos are available on http://www.NESPrep.com.
