Numerators, denominators and long division will assume a fresh personality as Marshfield public schools adopt a new mathematics curriculum for the elementary grades.

Assistant superintendent Ellen Martin presented a proposal to the School Committee on March 20 recommending adaptation of the enVision math text and materials published by Pearson.

Superintendent Scott Borstel said that $400,000 was appropriated at the April 2011 special Town Meeting for new elementary textbook materials. During Martin’s deliberations with enVision, she negotiated the price for the entire packet, including in-service instruction for staff and fees, to $278,000. The agreement will be in effect for seven years. The only costs to the town during that period would be replacement of lost or damaged materials.
