Rancho Cordova, Calif. October 26, 2009 --The schools in the Archdiocese of Seattle, which serve over 23,000 students, play a critical role in the life of the community by instilling values, teaching discipline, and achieving strong, consistent academic results for students of many cultures and backgrounds.

The Archdiocese of Seattle selected PowerSchool from Pearson as its comprehensive student information system (SIS) based on its successful track record in Catholic schools and dioceses across the country. With its robust set of communications tools, PowerSchool will provide access to secure, real-time student information through a web browser, effectively creating an interactive dialogue among parents, students, and teachers.

Pearson has structured an acquisition program for the Archdiocese to implement PowerSchool in various phases to work within the real-world financial constraints of the Archdiocesan schools. Further, by taking advantage of PowerSchool training certification, Archdiocese staff will be able to perform its own service work--achieving further long-term cost savings.

PowerSchool supplies the Archdiocese with the tools to easily create the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) report, an annual data export of aggregate student and staff data. The report data collection process has historically required months of effort from many individuals in the Archdiocese; however, with PowerSchool, the effort will now only require one person to run an instant data query.

"The Archdiocese of Seattle, Catholic Schools Department, needed to standardize our disparate student information systems across schools to construct a unified student database with constant access to centralized, real-time data," said Sandra Barton-Smith, Assistant Superintendant of the Archdiocese. "Our schools were using a variety of solutions, along with a few with no accessible student data system at all. We chose PowerSchool to facilitate our consortium model based on its excellent reputation, facility with NCEA report generation, and our own experience since over 20% of our schools already using PowerSchool independently. For us, PowerSchool will assist us in developing a more centralized and standard student data information system, reducing reporting time, making the best use of limited financial resources, and expanding our ability to spend time on our true mission--educating our students."

"Pearson is pleased to welcome all of the Archdiocese of Seattle Catholic Schools as PowerSchool customers," said Paul Fletcher, President of the School Systems group of Pearson. "By selecting PowerSchool, the Archdiocese of Seattle will be implementing an open, integrated solution that enables the Archdiocese to adapt to the ever-evolving education technology landscape."

The Archdiocese of Seattle Catholic Schools began the implementation of PowerSchool in August 2009. For more information about Pearson and PowerSchool, please visit www.PearsonSchoolSystems.com.
